Gaia is a space observatory launched by the ESA on 19 Dec 2013 to map the positions and velocities of stars in our and nearby galaxies! It orbits the sun at L2, just like Webby Scopes will.

It’s amazing to see the star charts produced and reminds me of the navigational charts used in many SciFi films. See this example:
