Allen AI is a nonprofit that publishes everything: model weights, training data, training code, checkpoints. Their OlmoTrace tool lets you find verbatim matches between a model’s output and its training corpus. You can actually see where the words came from. You can’t do that with Claude, GPT, or even Qwen.

Their Olmo model is the vegan impossible burger of AI models. Olmo isn’t as capable as Qwen yet (their own coding agent SERA is built on a Qwen backbone, which tells you where things stand). It’s fully transparent and fully traceable.

As I work toward owning and operating my own personal, private, local coding agent, I’ll keep an eye on Olmo. Provenance matters.
